Okay, so the upgrade to the new version of osCommerce didn’t go a smoothly as I had first thought. Everything looked just fine (just to lull you into a false sense of security) and then someone new signed up to buy something… someone from Ontario. The problem was noticed when we were processing the order and found they were not charged Provincial Sales Tax which they should have been since they’re in Ontario and we’re in Ontario.
We found that there is a small (ha, small) glitch in the upgrade from the old version to the new version. The old database (which stores all our customer and product data and history) isn’t fully compatible with the new version of the store. It leaves out the Province/State data for new registrations and is also not visible in previous customer data. This can be a problem for say, shipping? Taxes? Just a small glitch…
So needless to say I’m forced to start over from scratch and rebuild the store. It should be ready in about a week since I can’t just dump the data in but must recreate it manually… one item at at time.
The sad thing is we’ll loose all our customers data from the new database which means your registrations will need to be done again. Also your address book information and of course your order history will be history.
Newsletters are a different story and they’re just fine so you need not re-register for those.
Feel free to continue to shop and place your orders… if you live in Ontario you will be sent an invoice for sales tax, just so you know.
All this just to keep up with the times.
We’ll let you know right here, and through email, when the big change will take place… or you can just try to login to the new store next week and find you can’t… unless you register again.
blessings,
Kemi
