I admit that I was a Christian at one time. Prior to 1993 I said things like ‘Do unto Others as you would have them do unto you” but I’m not Christian anymore so I don’t say stuff like that anymore.
This doesn’t mean that what I said was false, just that it was said in such a way as to make it Christian that’s all. And being a recovering Christian I stay far away from anything that resembles Christianity.
This doesn’t mean that I don’t treat others the way I would like to be treated. Today I’m an Eclectic Wiccan and I believe still that you should treat others kindly and with respect. We have another way of saying the same thing. “What goes around comes around. ” It’s the law of Threefold Return. What you put out to the Universe comes back to you three times. This means that doing harm comes back to you threefold but it also means that doing good comes back to you threefold.
The problem with today’s society is we forget about both statements. We tend to think of ourselves first and foremost. We forget to be generous, courteous and kind. We think that not getting caught is being good. When a person selling goods that I know were made using stolen intellectual property (copyrighted material) I confront the person only to hear them say, ‘prove it’ or ‘have their lawyer call my lawyer’ is not in my opinion being good person.
What happened to doing good, not just not getting caught doing bad?
I would love to see someone help an old lady across the street (assuming she wants to cross the street). Or perhaps picking up the glove the person in front of you dropped rather than just walking over it. Maybe let the person that tied you getting to the four way intersection go first? There are probably 10 things a day that give you the opportunity to do something nice for someone else. Why not use them by implementing doing good into your Imbolc plan for this year? Society needs you…
